Dear Epaphras,

Yesterday, July 14th, was France’s independence day, Bastille day – which commemorates the storming of the Bastille in 1789, an event that ignited the French Revolution.  While France celebrates let me share a few short bits and ask you to pray and give thanks to our great, loving God.

Annie and Julia both finished school last week.  Annie graduated from the 9th grade with the highest score possible (mention trés bien) on the high school entrance exam!  She worked really hard and we are proud of her.  Julia did really well at school too, has many friends and will be heading into 7th grade next year.

The girls are currently at a massive Youth for Christ rally in LeHavre, France called, ‘Bouge ta France’ – a colloquial expression meaning, “get your France moving!”  The planners rented out an entire stadium and the 1200+ kids have been sleeping on cots in the locker rooms, eating meals in the stands and worshiping on the rugby field.  Our Aussie teammate, Lauren, who is church planting in Lourdes, made the two day drive with them and they have had a blast with five days of solid biblical teaching, fun, outreach, and Jesus focused worship.  Last night Nick (pictured above) with no arms or legs challenged them to devote their lives to following Christ and not live for the fleeting things of this world.  You can read more about Nick’s ministry, Life without Limbs here.  As you can imagine, occasions like this are few and far between in France.  Pray the kids return to their cites, towns and villages on fire for Jesus.

As far as our health is concerned, Sara is feeling a better and responding to the lyme treatment.  These past two weeks she has noticed more energy and less sensitivity to noise.  We are grateful!  However, we found out that I too have lyme disease.  While mine is not in a debilitating phase, I have been struggling with nagging joint and muscle pain.  So, we are both being treated and following a strict anti inflammation diet. And, after 6 weeks of treatment, I’m feeling better as well.  Pray for continued healing.

Sara’s book Orphaleena continues to minister to women in the USA and Europe.  Pray for a dear friend “Deborah” who has been closed to the Gospel for five years.  Sara gave her a copy of Orphaleena and a few days later came to Sara saying that Orphaleena’s story has been, ‘stirring up spiritual feelings deep inside.’  Sara was able to more fully explain the Gospel, pray with her and she is currently reading through the Gospels in a Bible Sara gave her.  Purchase a copy at www.orphaleena.com.  If you purchase four or more you’ll get a discount and free shipping within the USA.  Details are on the “Store” tab of the website.

I (Steve) preach occasionally at our local church, co-lead the high school Sunday school and design the church website; www.eglisecotebasque.com.  Check it out, you can even listen to a message I preached a few weeks ago on Hebrews 12:1-2.  With so many vacationers heading to Basque Country for the summer, having a strong and functional website is an important ministry.

Last month I was in Germany overseeing the strengthening of a partnership with a German mission called the DMG.  They will be helping us get visas for PIONEERS teams sharing Jesus with refugees.  Germany as you know received nearly a million refugees over the past two years and will be receiving 350-500K each year going forward for 10 years.  While most are muslim, the majority are fed up with Islam and hungry to meet the God of Scriptures.  And, spiritually, secular Europe has little to offer.  This is an incredible opportunity and we, along with our German partners have a vision for 200  missionaries in Germany by 2020.  SIM and Greater Europe Mission will also be contributing workers to that vision!  Our people will first need to learn the German language and culture and then the heart languages of the refugees; such as Arabic, Dari or Farsi.  Reply to this email if you are interested in joining our work among refugees or know someone who might be.

Thank you for standing with us in prayer!

Blessings in Jesus,

Steve for the Curreys

Ps – last month we welcomed Gigi to the family – she is pictured here sunbathing on our picnic table!  Also, our website has a new look…. Check it out at WWW.THECURREYS.ORG
