Dear friends,

“Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints…”  Psalm 116:15

This is probably my favorite photo of my mom, Jean Lee Currey.  Its a picture from the day she officially ‘adopted’ my brother and I.  We had just lost our first mom to cancer a few years prior and this woman stepped into our lives.  She did so with love, courage and conviction, taking on every role imaginable; team mother, trainer, encourager, defender, role model, love giver are a few that come to mind as I write.

Alzheimers is a vicious disease.  Not only because it robs your health, but, because it steals one’s mind, ones memories.  It attempts to malign ones reputation and character.  It strives to replace fond and precious memories with bizarre ones.  My mom was a fighter.  And, up until yesterday, she bravely battled Alzheimers.  She won.  Alzheimers didn’t.

“Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O Death, where is your sting?”   1 Corinthians 15 : 51

Mom was an amazing advocate for our ministry: first in Haiti, then in Senegal and now in Europe.  Rarely did she go anywhere where she didn’t tell people of the work we were doing with Jesus in those places.  She is now with our Lord.  And, its my joy to picture her resting in our Father’s arms.

My brother Michael and I will be holding a memorial, or celebration of life, ceremony next Friday, April 20th at 3PM in Coronado at mom’s church, St. Paul’s United Methodist at 700 D Avenue, Coronado, CA 92118.   It was at St. Paul’s where she danced, served, sang, taught and yes … made punch.  And yes, we will have some of mom’s famous punch on hand.  So, please come and celebrate with us if you can.

Due to an Air France strike I wasn’t able to be with my mom and brother in her last hours.  But, I’m en-route as I write.  Sara and the girls aren’t able to join so please be praying for them in my absence.   For those of you who cannot make it, we might try to broadcast the service live on facebook.  So, be looking out for another email.

Every blessing in Jesus,

Steve (for the Curreys)
