Today’s attack in Rouen, France was closer to home, both physically (Bayonne—our home—is just a few hundred miles from Rouen) and spiritually, as the attack was carried out against a 92 year old priest and a handful of parishioners, while he led a small Catholic mass. Details are still emerging but it is clear the attackers were motivated by Jihadist ISIS links. Questions are arising across France “Who will keep us safe?”
Its increasingly clear that politicians worldwide have few solutions. Many are bound by political correctness, not wanting to offend the world’s 1.5 billion Muslims by linking these events with fundamental Islam. The Prime Minister of France, Manuel Valls, honestly yet shamefully said in an interview shortly after the Nice truck attack that left 84 dead, “France must get used to these kinds of terror attacks.” That remark infuriated the French who have, more than most peoples, held onto the expectation that their government is supposed to keep them safe. But, Valls was being honest.
Let’s face it. The only solution is changed hearts. Hearts full of hatred need changing. And, only Jesus can change hearts. It’s time for the church to boldly step out in faith and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus to the Muslim world.
God is using PIONEERS in Europe to do just that. You won’t hear these stories from CNN or FOX, as praying for Muslims to turn from Islam and place their faith in Jesus is the pinnacle of political incorrectness. But Jesus, as he has been doing for 2000 years, is drawing the unreached to himself. Jesus IS changing hearts! At least 16 of our teams in Europe are proclaiming the love and truth of Christ to Muslims.
In the past 12 months we’ve seen:
- More than 150 Iranians baptized into Jesus in the UK
- Six Iraqis turn to Christ in “le Jungle” (a sprawling refugee camp in Northern France)
- A Syrian church spring up at a refugee camp in northern Greece – their first meeting held outside the walls of the camp, as threats had come from the Muslim population within
- And, we have ongoing outreach to Muslim immigrants in France (Nantes, Paris, Lyon, Marseille, and Nice), Britain (London, Manchester, Oxford and Liverpool), and Germany (Heidelberg)
Be encouraged and be emboldened to proclaim the love and mercy of God through faith in Jesus. Acts 4:12 reminds us that there is, “no other name (else Jesus) by which we can be saved.” When you are frustrated and feel both hopeless and helpless with the seemingly unending litany of terror, turn your energies to praying for our teams in the above cities, reaching Muslims in Europe. And celebrate when you hear of Jesus changing lives as he is doing in many parts of Europe.
