Dear Epaphras,Julia-phototherapy
Julia was born in Dakar, Senegal 10 years ago this coming Sunday, February 16th.  What an adventure the Lord has had us on since. We remember her African pediatrician’s words when Julia was 3 days old, “Mr. and Mrs. Currey, there is a problem with Julia’s blood…”  He sent a blood sample off to a laboratory in Paris and he sent us back to the USA for the first of Julia’s eighty transfusions.

When we learned that our daughter would have regular blood transfusions and need to live close to a safe blood supply, returning to Senegal, West Africa was no longer an option.  We then asked our intercessory team to join us in praying that God’s will be done and for us to know the next step in the journey.  Soon after, the Holy Spirit opened a door for us to serve with our mission, PIONEERS, in the home office.  For three years Steve served as director of the PIONEERS Edge program, a short-term missions mentoring program for college students. Just when we thought the door to ministering cross culturally was forever closed, God miraculously reopened it and in 2007 we left for France where Steve served as the Area Leader for Western Europe.

julia-serving-mcdonaldsJulia started school in Azereix, France at 3 years old and continued to receive her transfusions at the local hospital.  France’s medical system has been an answer to prayer for us; excellent care with total financial coverage has taken much stress out of our daily lives.  When Julia was 6, a surgical team in Toulouse removed her gallbladder, freeing her from painful pigment stones.  When she was 8 the same team removed her spleen, freeing her from regular transfusions!  Since January of 2011, Julia has been transfusion free!  Praise the Lord!  To the many of you who have prayed for her since birth, thank you!  Please celebrate God’s hand on Julia’s life these past 10 years.  She is such a joy to us.

Thanks for praying last weekend.  Steve’s trip to the southeast of France was a success and the Lord provided a solution to the team in conflict.  The Lord moved mightily and led the family that was considering leaving the mission to stay. While things are not totally clear, He seems to be leading the other members of the team to form a new work, one focused intentionally on disciple making movements (DMM). Please continue to pray as these dear servants seek the Lord.  Pray also that Charles would have much wisdom as he provides oversight.

Next week, we’ll be updating you from the “Paris of Eastern Europe,” Budapest, Hungary. Our family has the unique opportunity to visit our teams, encourage PI missionaries, lead two 2-day meetings and experience what God is up to in Eastern Europe.  We would appreciate you remembering us in prayer.  Ask the Lord for good health (especially Julia), open doors for the Gospel, opportunities to minister and encourage our workers and a fun and relaxing time for the family.  Please pray that the two meetings be transformational in the lives of the European mobilization directors and area leaders attending.

In Jesus,

Steve, Sara, Annie and Julia
